Understanding production, materials, and how each technology works help me deliver the best possible results to my clients.
The same layout looks and feels different on frontlit vs. backlit OOH, or on 60/40 vs. standard 50/50 perforated cast vinyl film. One looks crisper, the other one can look slightly translucent. Deciding which version works best for a specific situation influences the design decisions. In some cases, the layout might need brighter colors and bigger contrast, or a bolder and bigger font size, even if the branding guidelines ask for lighter weights.
The same rationale applies when it comes to designing vehicle wraps or conference stands.
When the same layout covers both opaque and transparent areas, such as vehicle panels and windows, it alters design decisions. Where should the logo, text, or other essential elements be placed to be visible at a glance while adhering to the client's branding? Which part of the design needs to be mapped onto curved surfaces or mobile parts, such as doors? And how does the overlaminated layer that prevents dirt buildup and UV discoloration influence the colors?
Different challenges apply to conference materials. Where does the speaker stand? How far away are the viewers? How strong is the lighting? Is it natural or artificial? Warm or cold?
Every tiny production detail matters and alters the design decisions. I make sure I take into account each one of them before even adding the first pixels on the screen.
